Demolition Starts on Former Doylestown Borough Hall for New Boutique Hotel

Demolition has started on the former Doylestown Borough Hall, clearing the site for a new four-story boutique hotel.

Demolition has started on the former Doylestown Borough Hall at 57 West Court Street to clear the site for a new four-story boutique hotel, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

The site originally housed the Methodist Episcopal Church, built in 1838. The building was converted into an armory in the early 1900s, then a sports venue and later the Doylestown Garage.

Much of the original structure was destroyed in a 1915 fire. The exterior walls were left intact, but were eventually taken down for the garage.

The building was sold to Doylestown Borough in 1979 and was Doylestown Borough Hall from 1979 to 2022. After the borough relocated to Doyle Street, the building was sold to Larry Thompson, who owns several key Doylestown properties, for $2.3 million.

Thompson plans to build a new hotel at the site with 32 rooms, an event space and a full-service restaurant.

“The hotel idea came about after speaking to a lot of business owners in town and knowing people in the hospitality business,” he said. “We have everything else – the walkability, the shops, the restaurants, the train. But we don’t have the hotel rooms.”
