Borough Council Approves Plans for New Retail Space in Downtown Doylestown

Doylestown's Council approved Worth & Worth’s preliminary plans to redevelop 159 to 161 West State Street.

At its September meeting, Doylestown Borough Council approved Worth & Worth’s preliminary plans as final plans to redevelop 159 to 161 West State Street, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

Four buildings that are located just west of Ventresca’s Men’s Clothing Store will be demolished to make way for a new 5,780-square-foot building containing three retail units. The buildings slated for demolition include two structures currently used as a dwelling and auto parts store combination, along with a detached house with an accessory garage.

The lots currently housing these four buildings will be consolidated into a single 13,000-square-foot lot facing West State Street. This will then become home to the new retail building. Individual retail units in the new building will measure 2,000, 1,900 and 1,607 square feet.

The new building will include a rear parking lot accessible from North Franklin Street via an alleyway.

The proposed retail use “is consistent with the borough’s current zoning and land use vision and map,” states Worth & Worth’s redevelopment plan, adding that the “redevelopment of nonconforming uses to permitted retail uses is consistent with the borough’s land use and economic development strategy.”
