Penndel Borough Police Officer Sean Peck is helping the family he rescued from a house fire recover from their loss with a GoFundMe, writes Tim Jimenez for KYW Newsradio.
Peck was leaving the Penndel police station at 5 AM last Thursday when he saw smoke and flames coming from the house across the street.
Justin Ritorto, a resident on the street, was banging on the door to wake up the home’s residents.
When a woman opened the front door, Peck rushed inside and got the other seven residents to safety.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the home was destroyed along with all their possessions.
Wanting to do more to help, Peck began a GoFundMe, which has raised over $5,700 so far.
“Some of these people came out with just a blanket on. Imagine if you had nothing but a sheet covering your body,” Peck said.
He has been praised as a hero by the community, but has stated he simply did what any first responder would have done.
Peck was an Army Ranger and previously served as a police officer in Philadelphia before he joined the Penndel Police Department two and a half years ago.
