The Lighthouse on Norton Avenue, an affordable housing project for seniors, is nearing completion and getting the final touches in Bristol Township, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The project will create 51 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments for seniors ages 55 and older along Norton Avenue.
Rev. James Evans III, who leads the adjacent Norton Avenue First Baptist Church, was instrumental in making affordable housing a reality. After years of navigating the land development process in the township, he now oversees the final work on the building.
Each unit will have a small balcony, and there will be gathering spaces on each of the three floors where residents can host meetings, movie nights and other events. On-site medical care will also be provided five days a week by local healthcare providers.
However Evans avoids credit for the project and instead directs praise beyond himself.
“I’m not trying to build my name,” he said. “I’m here to try to build up what God’s given us, and little by little, that’s what we’ve done.”
Construction is expected to be completed within the next two months.
