Waterfront Borough in New Jersey Boasts Victorian Charm, Outdoor Fun

Stockton, a waterfront borough in New Jersey, is a cozy town with Victorian charm, welcoming inns, outdoor activities, and local fun.

Across the river on New Jersey’s waterfront lies Stockton, a charming borough just north of Lambertville with a soothing atmosphere and lots to do, writes Jeff Martinez for Islands

The town’s Victorian inns are great places to spend the night, while scenic parks, wineries, and historic attractions provide plenty to do during the day.

The Woolverton Inn is a can’t-miss bed and breakfast housed along the Delaware River. The 18th-century estate offers elegant rooms and a three-course country breakfast every day.

Another great spot to stay in is the historic Stockton Inn, established in 1710. Accommodations can be found in the original inn and two carriage houses.

Famous individuals like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and F. Scott Fitzgerald have stayed for a trip. The inn also served as the inspiration for the song “There’s a Small Hotel” by Rodgers and Hart.

The inn’s Dog & Deer Tavern is a great spot to grab a drink, while the onsite restaurant, Finch, boasts tasty dishes.

Enjoy the outdoors and wander along the 70-mile Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail, perfect for bikers and casual hikers alike.

Prallsville Mill hosts a variety of art galleries, craft shops, and community events to visit, while Federal Twist Vineyard offers delicious wines to try.
