$29M Visitor Center in NJ Washington Crossing State Park Nears Completion

The new $29 million museum and visitor center coming to New Jersey’s Washington Crossing State Park this year is nearing its completion.

Just across the river, the new Museum & Visitor Center at Washington Crossing State Park in New Jersey is moving closer to its completion, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.

The new center, spanning 11,500 square feet, is replacing the original building constructed for the 1976 Bicentennial. It’s scheduled to open this year to commemorate the nation’s 250th birthday.

In the new space, visitors will be able to see artifacts from the Revolutionary War along with a restored 1921 mural of General Washington’s Delaware River crossing. An immersive 4D experience of crossing the river via ferry will also be available.

Rotating gallery space, an orientation area, a lobby, and support areas will make up 2,200 square feet of the building.

The center was constructed as part of RevolutionNJ’s efforts to celebrate the anniversary of the Revolution.

New York-based firm Ikon.5 Architects designed the structure, with total project costs reaching $23.8 million.

“The new Museum & Visitor Center at Washington Crossing State Park is truly New Jersey’s gift to the nation and one of many historical focal points as RevolutionNJ raises awareness of New Jersey’s critical role in the American Revolution,” said Lt. Governor Dr. Dale G. Caldwell
