The ShopRite of Yardley recently raised almost $55,000 in the annual ShopRite Partners in Caring Cheerios Contest, writes Dino Ciliberti for Patch.
Thanks to their efforts, ShopRite was placed in the top five fundraising stores in the anti-hunger campaign.
The contest is sponsored by General Mills and takes place in September, which is Hunger Action Month. Funds raised at each ShopRite store are donated to local organizations and food banks fighting hunger.
Across its nearly 27 locations, ShopRite raised $1.34 million, which will be distributed to community members and families in need.
The top 55 ShopRite fundraising locations will select employees to be featured on special edition Cheerios boxes, which are only available in stores between March and May.
At the Yardley location, associates Haley Bencivengo, Glenn Frinfrock, Dorie Menzel, and Sean Walsh will be featured on boxes.
The Partners in Caring initiative is a year-round effort that collaborates with 50 food industry manufacturers. It provides $3 million every year to charitable organizations in Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The campaign primarily supports soup kitchens, homeless shelters, emergency food pantries, senior programs, after-school programs, and childcare centers.
