Durham’s Cascade Lodge, a popular wedding venue, wants to add two ten-room cottages to accommodate guests during events that are held on the property, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Last week’s sketch plan presentation to the planning commission and residents outlined a scaled-back approach for the property. The earlier proposal called for 44 micro-cabins and met resistance from town officials and neighbors who said the development included too many structures positioned too close to the road.
The revised proposal calls for two 3,000-square-foot buildings with guest parking. The cottages would not function as standard hotels but would be reserved exclusively for event attendees.
“Our goal was to have less units, have less distributed across the property, to move them as far back as possible and to tuck them in behind the natural grade of the property,” said project architect Ralph Fey.
In addition to Cascade Lodge, the property features the Durham Springs restaurant, both of which will continue to operate throughout the development.
The proposal also includes renovations to an existing barn and caretaker’s house to serve guests and on-site staff.
