Here Are Some Holiday Happenings This Month in Delaware County

The Festival of Lights kicks off Dec. 4 at Rose Tree Park, one of many holiday activities happening in December in Delaware County.

The Christmas season has arrived in Delaware County with plenty of holiday spirit to go around.

So while shoppers are rushing home with their treasures, here are some holiday-themed activities in Delaware County, as compiled by Peg DeGrassa at the Daily Times.

And if you haven’t picked out a Christmas tree yet, Linvilla Orchards in Media can help, according to Michelle Myers, Henry Savage, and Rosa Cartagena for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Festival of Lights

Rose Tree Park will be ablaze nightly with 300,000 lights illuminating 125 trees for Delaware County’s 50th annual Festival of Lights. The display opens Dec. 4 and runs through Saturday, Jan. 3. This year’s festival includes a display of the Delco Bell, part of the Bells Across PA initiative by America250PA to celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial in 2026.

Havertown Holiday Festival

The Havertown Holiday Festival, a family-friendly community event, returns for its fourth year Saturday, Dec. 6, noon to 7 PM on Brookline Blvd. in Havertown.

Media Holiday Happenings

Eighteen shops in Media Borough are participating in “Shop Late On State Until 8” by staying open until 8 PM on Friday, Dec. 5, to encourage shoppers to “shop small in Everybody’s Hometown.”

Then on Dec. 6, from 11 AM to 4 PM, visitors can climb inside a giant inflatable snow globe at Plum Street Park for a unique greeting card photo opportunity.

Finally, on Dec/ 13, from 11 AM to 3 PM, shoppers may have a chance encounter with the Grinch, who will be visiting State Street.

In addition, Media homeowners and businesses are invited to enter the Hometown Holiday Lights Contest.

Entries will be judged for Best Holiday House, Best Holiday Window Display, and Best Holiday Block.

Christmas Trees

There are plenty of farms in the Philadelphia region where you can cut down your own Christmas tree or find several pre-cut varieties.

Here in Delaware County, you can cut your own Christmas tree at Linvilla Orchards in Media, which offers free family hayrides to its Christmas tree fields. Most of the trees are Douglas firs from 5- to 8-feet tall.

There are also pre-cut trees available daily.

Complete your holiday at Linvilla with a visit to the Farm Market for baked goods, gift baskets, and more.

There is also a winter makers market Friday through Sunday through Dec. 21 and an ice-skating rink for a fee. Santa will also be making appearances.
