From now until the end of the year, the Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center in Doylestown will offer weekend tours of the lyricist’s home, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.
Oscar Hammerstein II resided in the Highland Farm property for two decades, creating iconic lyrics.
The tour of his home provides insights into his family’s musical history, his humanitarian efforts and the impact of his work.
From 1940 to 1960, Hammerstein crafted the lyrics for musicals like “The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma!,” “Cinderella,” “South Pacific,” and more in his Doylestown home.
His desk, where he spent countless hours composing, will also be featured on the tour. The desk was only recently added to the museum’s collection.
Hammerstein was also a mentor to lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim, who lived near Highland Farm.
Guests can enjoy private and public tours, and tickets are required for all visits.
Tickets for public tours are available for $15. Private and group tours are available by appointment for $15 per person for up to 10 guests.
Tours range from one hour to 90 minutes, depending on the day.
