The Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center is set to celebrate the closing of its purchase of the legendary lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II’s Doylestown home, Highland Farm, today, writes Chloe Rabinowitz for Broadway World.

Highland Farm is not only a historic site but also a creative hub where Hammerstein and composer Richard Rodgers collaborated on iconic shows like “The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma!,” and “South Pacific.”

The property, dubbed the “Birthplace of the Modern American Musical,” served as Hammerstein’s home for the last 20 years of his life. It was there that he mentored Stephen Sondheim and inspired numerous award-winning works.

Plans for the site include a youth theater company, various classes, mentorship programs, and outreach initiatives.

The upcoming phases involve preparing the infrastructure for public use, restoring the historic home, and developing a theater education center.

A matching donation drive is underway, with naming opportunities available for various spaces within the property.

The celebration begins at noon and features performances by the Lenape Middle School Choir and speeches, including remarks from OHMTEC board president Greg Roth
