As SNAP benefits are delayed and the federal government remains shut down, Giovanni’s Dillicious Pickles in Croydon has stepped up to help local families, reports Shaynah Ferreira for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
Gabrielle Favoroso, owner of the eatery, is offering free VIP meals to those in need.
Already, families have driven from all across Bucks County to get a meal from Giovanni’s.
The Croydon community has eagerly shown their support, sending donations to cover the cost of over 150 meals.
“All night long, my phone was going, ding, da ding, da ding, but I didn’t think anything of it. I woke up, and it said that I had a new Venmo balance, and I slid it over and it was over $1,100. It just shows how much community support we have for complete strangers,” Favoroso said.
Favoroso said she’s been deeply moved by the overwhelming community support.
She stressed that the free meals aren’t just for government workers and those going without SNAP benefits; they’re for anyone who needs them.
“We don’t ask questions. We don’t care,” she said. “We’re all non-judgmental, and we truly mean it when we say that there are no questions asked except for ‘what can we get for you?’”
