As summer slowly draws to a close, it won’t be long before the leaves begin to change color. One of the best scenic drives in the country is right in Bucks County, giving locals the chance to see the area’s most stunning fall scenery, writes Jim Wright for PhillyBite Magazine.
The historic River Road, or Route 32, winds along the Delaware River. Along this road, there are a variety of spots to explore.
The first stop is Washington Crossing Historic Park, which is stunning during the fall months. Be sure to watch for historic barns scattered along the road, including the Thompson-Neely House & Farmstead.
Just five minutes away from the park is Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, a beautiful pit stop with trails to enjoy.
Further up the road lies New Hope, a town bustling with art galleries, shops and boutiques. Grab a bite to eat at The Deck Restaurant & Bar at the Bucks County Playhouse or The Landing Restaurant.
Another can’t-miss spot up the road is Lumberville. This quaint village features impressive historic places like the Black Bass Hotel and the Lumberville General Store.
Continue the scenic drive to your final stop: Erwinna. Drivers can visit the covered bridges throughout the area and take a trip to Ringing Rocks Park with its 120-acre forest.
