Two peacocks were seen wandering around a Doylestown neighborhood, and while one has been captured, the other is still roaming free, reports Caroline Goggin for 6abc.
The two birds are male and believed to be around a year old. They were seen in a neighborhood near Sandy Ridge Road and Theodore Way.
Pocono Wildlife in Stroudsburg was contacted, and members of the wildlife rescue service came to assist. While one of the peacocks was successfully captured and is now on its way to Monroe County, the other is still on the loose.
A resident, Maria Recupero, said she saw the remaining bird perched on the roof of her home.
“I thought it was a vulture or something. I had no idea. But the feathers hung over the gutter that far. So we knew it was something strange,” added Elayne Recupero.
The lead avian specialist, Sampson Metzgar, and other members of the wildlife service are still working to corner the bird.
“It’s not the first time we’ve gotten calls about peacocks. This is our first time for that area,” said Metzgar.
Metzgar discussed how peacocks are fast runners and, under the right conditions, can fly approximately a mile.
It’s believed that the two birds are pets, but it’s not clear if they escaped or were released.
