A search is underway for a bear spotted in the area of Route 1 close to the Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne on Friday, write Trish Hartman and John Paul for 6abc.
One clip captured by a local shows the bear climbing a fence, followed by police and a game warden. Authorities believe it is the same animal recently spotted in other parts of Bucks County, including Doylestown.
The bear is a yearling, recently independent after being raised by its mother, now searching for a place to live.
“Whenever they start leaving home, which is mom, they pretty much get kicked out,” said State Game Warden Isaac Decker. “And they have to find their own area. So this bears out looking for new territory.”
Officials said that, as of Friday afternoon, the bear was heading toward the Neshaminy Creek area. They also offered advice on how to keep safe.
“You definitely want to watch out for your pets, especially smaller animals,” said Decker. “A big thing is to remove bird feeders for the next couple of days because they love birdseed. Try to lock up your trash or take it out the morning of trash day.”
