AJ Tantala of Langhorne has been searching for a kidney donor for years and found a unique means of sharing his story, reports Shawnette Wilson for Fox 29.
Tantala was born with Posterior Urethral Valve Syndrome, which caused kidney failure at age two.
He discovered he was in kidney failure again after getting a physical when he was in college in 2022. Still unable to find a donor, Tantala has to undergo dialysis three days a week.
Hoping to spread the word about his story, his family came up with the idea to create a billboard featuring AJ wearing his Phillies overalls.
Tantala is a big Phillies fan but has been unable to attend games due to his condition. He’s also had to put his passion for theater aside.
“We have a lot of buzz around my story getting out there, so there’s hope for the first time in a bit,” AJ said.
The family hopes to find a living donor soon, especially since AJ recently proposed to his fiancée, Colleen Thompson.
“Getting a kidney would kind of give him his life back. It would give us a real start, a real future,” Thompson said.
