Newtown Man Receives Double Lung Transplant After Decades of Waiting

Bucks County resident Kevin Christ recently received a double lung transplant after decades spent on oxygen.

Kevin Christ of Newtown recently received the gift of two new lungs, allowing him to breathe easily for the first time in his life, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc

When he was born, it was determined that Christ would need a double lung transplant. Doctors placed him on a ventilator, and he has been using oxygen ever since.

After decades of struggle, Christ was finally able to receive a transplant. He went in for surgery on Feb. 15 and returned home on April 2.

For the last ten years, Christ has been a patient of Dr. Gerard Criner, the Director of Temple Lung Center.

“It’s his spirit, I think, that drove him as well as his just commitment to do well and you know that with his family at his side at every juncture, taking care of him,” said Criner.

Kevin’s father, Jim, noted that despite the challenges he faced, Kevin never complained about his condition.

“There’s a lot that they could basically teach us how to get through adversity, which we all do at some point in our lives,” Criner continued.
