Bensalem’s Holy Ghost Prep’s New Volleyball Program Draws High Interest

Holy Ghost Prep has had an enthusiastic response to its new volleyball team starting this spring.

Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem has added volleyball to its varsity sports this spring, drawing high interest from students, writes Drew Markol for the Bucks County Courier Times.

“The more opportunities we can give our students, the better, and this was a chance to do that,” said HGP athletic director Craig Conlin.

There had been informal discussions about adding volleyball in previous years, but those conversations gained momentum during the current school year. Conlin then received approval in January to include it in the school’s spring athletic offerings.

“I was really surprised,” said junior outside hitter Xyrus Mangapit. “I didn’t know I would be playing volleyball for my high school until January and now here we are doing it. It’s been a lot of fun.”

Despite the short notice, coach Noelle Codispoti had no trouble assembling a team, given the sky-high interest.

“At our tryouts this year, we had 26 boys come out, which is great, and we have varsity and junior varsity teams playing now,” said Codispoti.

A Class 3A program in volleyball, the Firebirds are not currently in a league, but can compete in the PIAA District One and state playoffs.
