Newtown Theater’s Adopt-a-Seat Program Aims to Raise $600K for Revamps
The Newtown Theatre has unveiled the “Balcony Edition” of its Adopt-a-Seat Program, aimed at funding the next stage of extensive renovations, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
This initiative invites patrons to sponsor seats for $600 each, contributing directly to a $600,000 renovation plan set for July and August.
According to Executive Director Andrew Smith, the project will focus on revamping the theatre’s balcony and basement restrooms. “We have 107 eager seat adoptees,” Smith noted, reflecting the community’s support following a successful previous campaign.
The remodel will include demolishing the old projection booth, upgrading to new hardwood floors, seats, and lighting in the balcony, and transforming the projection booth into a modern, compact version.
Additionally, the basement will see a significant overhaul with the construction of six new unisex, single-person restrooms, enhancing accessibility and traffic flow.
These improvements are part of the theatre’s ongoing evolution from its historical roots as a 19th-century community hall and movie theater.
