An educator from Bucks County was recently voted as her school’s top teacher after a year of working with students with special needs. Dino Ciliberti wrote about the teacher for the Bensalem Patch.

Chelsea Root, a special education instructor, is the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award at Bensalem High School for 2022-23. Officials from the Bensalem school said she had been elected over Christine Elberson and Elena Toselli.

“Bensalem High School has amazing educators doing wonderful things, inspiring both students and colleagues alike,” the Bensalem Township School District said. “The BHS Teacher of the Year Award is a teacher-led initiative meant to acknowledge and recognize the amazing educators at Bensalem High School.”

Root was announced as the winner during a high school pep rally Friday.

She thanked the school community for the honor and emphasized that the special education program always gets an outpouring of support from all members of the school’s faculty and staff.

“We would not be able to do so many of the projects that we do without this support,” said Root.

She also praised the student workers who take part in the transition program.

“These young men and women come in every day with a positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to make BHS a better place to be for all of us,” she said.
