Chris Baccash overcame his health scare through working with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

A Doylestown cyclist is continuing to race as he fights a brain tumor he was diagnosed with several years ago. Daphne Sashin wrote about the Bucks County native’s ride of a lifetime for Penn Medicine News.

Chris Baccash, a former business analyst, was looking to use his time and talents to help people when he received life-altering news back in 2019: he has a brain tumor. He worked with a neurosurgeon at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to remove the tumor over the course of two surgeries. He is continuing treatment for the health issue.

After recovering, he decided to pursue his love of cycling to the next level. He competed in the Bucks County Classic and the Leadville Trail 100 MTB in Colorado.

His journey of recovery and victory was documented by a filmmaker and high school friend in the short documentary “Mountains We Climb”, which as shown at the Bicycle Film Festival in Doylestown back in April .

“I knew that my situation was going to take a while to get corrected and I would have a chance to reprioritize,” Bacchash said. “It’s rare that we get these opportunities to pause and stop the show. I thought, ‘This is an opportunity to change my life.’”
