Pennsbury High Grad Draws on Clown Work Background for New Slasher Film

Victoria Pedretti (Right), a Pennsbury High School graduate, has used her background in clown work to help with her film performances.

Victoria Pedretti, a talented horror actress in the hit TV shows You and The Haunting of Hill House, draws on her early exposure to the performing arts for every film, writes Rosa Cartagena for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Pedretti, who’s now starring as one of the main characters in the recently released Forbidden Fruits, was inspired as a child by her clown-and-mime theater director father and contemporary dancer mother.

Her parents ensured she had exposure to the arts in every form, even signing her up for Bucks County Community College’s summer clown camp.

The actress spent a portion of her childhood in Manayunk before her family moved to Bucks County. Pedretti joined the theater company at Fairless Hills’ Pennsbury High School and later attended Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama.

Pedretti later visited France to train with clowning professor Philippe Gaulier, and her years in clown work have stuck with her.

“The clown work that I’ve done has been the most influential work practice that I’ve ever done,” she said. “There is something about being challenged to confront the shame that we are taught as people in society, and kind of push back against it, and allow our instincts and humanness to guide us in performance, which, ultimately, is how I see clown work and acting.”
