SEPTA’s proposed mixed-use development at Langhorne train station is drawing a mix of support and concern from residents in Penndel, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Residents from Penndel, Middletown, Langhorne Manor, and nearby communities filled Penndel Borough Hall last month to hear more about the proposed project, officially known as the Langhorne Station Area Concept. It calls for a mix of multifamily housing and retail on the station’s underused south parking lot.
While the project still remains in its early stages, it has drawn mixed reactions, with some residents favoring no development and suggesting the site be used as green space or restored as a parking lot.
Still, many residents have voiced support for the project, saying they have long wanted meaningful improvements in Penndel and expressing cautious optimism that the SEPTA development could spark revitalization along Route 1.
“I think this community does need something that we can kind of leapfrog from,” said Penndel resident Chris Bell. “I think there’s still a lot of potential here and I think this is a really great opportunity for the community to kind of embrace it and make something of it.”
