Local designer Kate Pechinka of Kate Kelly Interiors played a key role in helping a couple of empty-nesters in Chester Springs find joy in using their porch again after a much-needed transformation, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today.
The couple was searching for a screened-in porch redesign that created a smooth transition from interior to exterior. Pechinka stepped in create a sunroom that offered comfort, relaxation, and space for entertainment.
Some parts of the walls were closed off for practicality, and an exterior door was moved from the kitchen to the terrace, leaving a cased opening to seamlessly blend movement from kitchen, to sunroom, to outdoors.
New porcelain tile floors were added and walls were decorated in minimal manner, thus putting focus on cozy seating and an indoor-outdoor carpet. Meanwhile, the ceiling is lined with white three-inch planks that reminisce the old porch. Windows, hardware, and baseboards were also updated to match the rest of the house.
Outdoors, original stone pavers were kept and re-grouted. Exterior lighting was implemented to enjoy evenings on the terrace. Additionally, wicker chairs with blue accents and a worn wood table complement the interior colors, serving as perfect spots to sit outside or host guests.
“It’s so important for clients to feel like they’re connected to the outside of their home just as much as the inside,” said Pechinka.
