After pitching in the New York Mets’ minor league system, Bensalem native Joey Lancellotti is making an immediate impact in his first stint as a college coach at La Salle, writes Colin Schofield for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
During his early playing days, Lancellotti competed at Penn Charter under current La Salle head coach David Miller. He later enjoyed a strong four-year run at North Carolina and spent three seasons in the Mets’ minor league system before an injury ended his playing career. As he weighed his next step, Miller offered him an opportunity to become La Salle’s pitching coach.
Lancellotti accepted and quickly found his footing, building strong connections with his pitchers and the staff. In a game on March 22 against Davidson, his pitching group delivered La Salle’s first no-hitter since 1997.
“The no-hitter for me was just so special, and I will remember it for the rest of my career,” he said. “And it won’t be for saying I threw a no-hitter; that’s not what this is about. It’s the first time my pitchers at La Salle showed that we’re not just a first-year La Salle team.”
