Joe Hand Boxing Gym in Feasterville offers opportunities for all members of the community to get a good workout with the many classes it offers, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.
The nonprofit has a variety of programs available, including ones for adults battling Parkinson’s disease and for young adults with autism.
In partnership with the Autism Cares Foundation in Southampton, the gym hosts a monthly Autism Cares Day, creating a welcoming environment where young adults can box.
“My parents were both police officers in the city of Philadelphia, and they saw firsthand on their job what a good…youth program means to a certain community group,” said Joe Hand Jr., the president of Joe Hand Promotions.
To keep the legacy of his parents alive, Hand has tried to give back to the community and pass the love for the sport to the next generation.
The Autism Cares Foundation was founded in Bucks County 19 years ago and runs events and activities for more than 4,300 participants.
Kim Smith, the Chief Operations Officer at Autism Cares Foundation, discussed how grateful the organization is for the partnership.
“They get to work out, they get to train, and they build confidence along the way. So we are incredibly happy they’ve chosen us as one of their community partners,” she said.
