The Joe Hand Boxing Gym in Feasterville is partnering with the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office Police Athletic League to create a youth boxing program, reports Cierra Genelle for WFMZ.
The president of the gym, Joe Hand Jr., decided he wanted to give local kids the chance to try something new. When Bucks County Sheriff Frederick Harran approached him about forming the program, Hand was excited to collaborate.
“I think there’s a lot of soccer fields. There’s a lot of baseball fields in this area. There’s probably not a lot of boxing programs. And this is what we’re going to try to give them, an experience here,” Hand said.
Through the program, kids will be taught the basics of boxing while learning the importance of discipline.
Hand mentioned that this new partnership means a lot, as both of his parents served as police officers in Philadelphia. He wanted to give back to the community in a way that his parents would be proud of, and he thinks the program is the perfect means of accomplishing that.
Each class includes 15 kids and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Already, the classes have a lengthy waitlist and have received a lot of positive feedback from parents.
