Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve’s Native Plant Nursery in Solebury was recently ranked as one of the top nurseries in the country, writes Jess Rohan for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The Bucks County nursery was listed in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, placing at No. 10 in the ranking.
According to a press release from the USA Today Network, the nurseries were nominated by “a panel of industry experts.” Editors then vetted the nominees and released a list for the public to vote on.
The preserve has over 200 native shrubs, perennial wildflowers, trees, ferns, and vines for sale in its modest nursery, while the park itself hosts more than 700 native plant species.
According to Bowman’s website, over 96 percent of the plants they offer are “straight species,” which means they evolved over thousands of years without any crossbreeding from humans.
Straight species support genetic diversity, help build a complete ecosystem, and act as a crucial food source, according to the website.
The nursery will open to the public this year on April 10, weather permitting, while the preserve itself is currently open for visitors.
Guests can enjoy hiking trails along with ponds, meadows, and the bird observatory. Families can also visit the children’s library.
