Ghost Energy Founder Ryan Hughes, West Chester Native, Sees Kalas Legacy as Untouchable

West Chester native Ryan Hughes' Ghost Energy company replaced Harry Kalas' name at Citizens Bank Park, but will not replace the legend.

West Chester native Ryan Hughes’ Ghost Energy company replaced Harry Kalas’ name at Citizens Bank Park, but he believes the legendary broadcaster’s legacy will not be diminished by the change, writes Matt Breen for The Philadelphia Inquirer

“His legacy is far bigger than a concession stand in left field,” said Hughes, addressing concerns from fans upset about the change.

Although Harry The K’s concession stand below the left field scoreboard became the Ghost Energy Deck at the season opener, Kalas remains honored with his statue at the ballpark and a plaque on the Wall of Fame. The broadcaster booth bears his name, and the Phillies play his version of High Hopes after every victory.

Hughes added he is making a donation to the Ashburn-Kalas Foundation on behalf of Ghost

“For us, the opportunity in left field is the passing of the torch or handing the ball off,” he said. “We’re hoping to bring some new energy to the space while also never forgetting Harry Kalas and the legacy that he left.”

John Middleton, the Phillies’ managing partner, said the contribution from Ghost is enough to “fund a player.”
