Holicong Bakery Gives Those with Disabilities a Sweet Place to Work

Bake Ability in Holicong provides young adults with intellectual disabilities a place to learn valuable workplace environment skills.

Bake Ability in Holicong provides job opportunities for young adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them a safe and welcoming atmosphere to work in, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc

“We want them to come in and feel like this is somewhere where they’re included and they’re special. And we take that extra 5 minutes to have that conversation with the customers here at Bake Ability,” said the store’s manager, Savannah Raphial

Employees are mentored and given the chance to learn workplace skills while assisting with small tasks like cleaning and baking.

The owner, Paula Fasciano, wanted to give her kids a meaningful place to work where they could learn skills they could apply to future positions.

The bakery currently has almost twenty members on their team, each helping with different daily operations and tasks, from working at the register to making icing.

They make everything from scratch and have separate gluten-free kitchens.

“People genuinely are really receptive to the idea and come back because of that. So that’s really what my goal is,” Raphial continued.
