A Perkasie native and Archbishop Wood graduate, Ryanne Allen has emerged as a much-needed spark off the bench for the Villanova basketball team, writes Katie Lewis for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 6-foot-1 senior guard scored 17 points for the Wildcats on Saturday, helping secure a 69-56 win over DePaul at Finneran Pavilion, and ended up finishing as the second-leading scorer of the game. She also led Villanova in rebounds, grabbing seven on the game.
Now in her second season with Villanova after two years at Vanderbilt, Allen has established herself as a three-point specialist, connecting on 48.7 percent of her shots from beyond the arc this season.
Despite starting only one game this year so far, Allen’s combination of experience and accurate shooting has secured her role as a key contributor in the team rotation lineup.
“When I come in, I just want to make an immediate impact and bring energy to those who have already been out there,” she said. “Being on the bench, you’re able to see things, see what’s happening out there. So I want to bring that energy and see what I can do to help the team in any way.”
