Langhorne native Joe Marsh has risen from an internship at Comcast Spectacor over twenty years ago to leading South Korea’s esports powerhouse T1 Entertainment & Sports as CEO, writes Ariel Simpson for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
A joint venture between Comcast Spectacor and South Korea’s SK Telecom, T1 Entertainment & Sports ranks among the world’s most successful esports organizations.
The team recently captured its sixth League of Legends World Championship, defeating rival KT Rolster in China with a historic third consecutive title.
Marsh has overseen the recruitment of top team members, including Faker, often called the LeBron James of esports, while also building new office space in Korea, forging partnerships with brands such as Disney, and working with K-pop group BTS.
Under his leadership, T1 opened its own gaming cafe featuring player-themed food, drinks and computers.
Inspired by one of Philadelphia’s favorite mascots, the team has developed a distinctive mascot of its own.
“We wanted our own version of Gritty,” said Marsh. “His name’s ATI. He’s supposed to be a Phoenix, but it looks like a giant chicken with a flame on his head. He’s gigantic and he’s awesome.”
