Norman Denbigh and Andre Brillaud, residents of Ann’s Choice in Warminster, recently met and connected over their shared experience as Olympic torchbearers for the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, writes Petra Shaw for Patch.
Denbigh was visiting Brillaud’s apartment when he noticed a plaque on the wall given to him for acting as a torchbearer for the 1996 Games.
That summer, Denbigh, then a Flemington resident, carried the torch through New Jersey. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and owned an automobile dealership.
He had been selected for his service to the country and his active involvement in the community.
“I couldn’t have been prouder bearing the torch,” said Denbigh.
Brillaud was a resident of Wilmington, North Carolina, and was chosen to carry the torch in Atlanta. He worked as an oncologist and served as the vice president at Bristol Myers Squibb before his retirement.
He also spent many years serving the community, working in leadership roles with the Salvation Army and other community organizations.
“I was surprised my feet touched the ground. I was so proud,” Brillaud said.
