Bucks County native Andrew Heo, set to represent Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, credits his family’s support as a key factor in his Olympic success, reports Siobhan McGirl for NBC 10 Philadelphia.
The 2022 Olympian and short track speedskater often emphasizes that his path to a second Olympics is not his alone, but a journey that he shared with his brother and parents.
“It’s just crazy to me,” said Heo. “It’s just so insane, the dedication, the sacrifice, what they had to give up for that.”
Those sacrifices meant spending countless hours in the car, traveling to a Maryland-based club where he went skating with his brother, which was three hours away one way from his Bucks County home.
They repeated the journey several times a week for nearly a decade. His father, Peter Heo, would get home at 1 AM and still be at work by 7 AM.
“I didn’t get much sleep, but it’s fine,” said the father. “I didn’t complain at all. I had one thing in mind that I wanted to give my kids whatever opportunity I can give them.”
