Vet Plans to Convert Long-Vacant Building into Animal Emergency Room

MB Vet Management proposed a plan for a high-tech emergency veterinary hospital in Newtown, to be built in an abandoned office building.

MB Vet Management recently proposed a plan to transform a two-story office building at 10 Friends Lane in Newtown into a 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, reports John Mack for Patch.

The 25,000-square-foot space has been empty since around 2010.

At the new high-tech trauma center, animals would be able to receive surgeries and acute care not offered by general practitioners.

It will primarily act as a referral partner for when complex procedures, emergency stabilization, and overnight monitoring are needed.

The project is a prime example of adaptive reuse, giving life to an empty space and renovating it to fit the hospital’s needs.

The new hospital is being described as a small business, with four veterinarians and two of their husbands investing in its development.

Livestock will not be treated by staff, but pet owners with nowhere else to go can receive care for their animals for smaller emergencies.

Renovations are expected to take between eight and nine months to complete. The hospital is expected to be operational by January 2027.
