Greenmore Farm Animal Rescue in West Grove rescues animals in unique situations and is equally committed to helping people through pet adoption, writes Gabbie Burton for the Chester County Press.
“When you adopt a dog, you open up a whole new window to yourself,” said Greenmore Farm Animal Rescue Founder and Executive Director Julia Altman. “A lot of these dogs have helped people as much as we’ve helped them.”
Altman opened Greenmore fifteen years ago after purchasing the farmland in West Grove, balancing her new endeavor with her nursing career. She committed to the rescue full time five years ago.
“It wasn’t fun,” she said. “I just want to rescue now.”
Since 2010, Greenmore has saved countless dogs as well as a variety of other animals, including a peacock, emu, goat, lamb, horse, and pigs. Altman’s medical background has been a driving force in these efforts, with her team performing most veterinary services onsite, except for surgeries and scans.
“We do a good bit more than a lot of rescues,” said Altman. “We try to do as much ourselves, so we don’t have to pay for it, because it’s really expensive.”
