Stage United and ArtWRKD to Host Musical, Storytelling Event Friday

Stage United and Newtown’s ArtWRKD are collaborating for the upcoming SPEAKeasy event on Dec. 12, featuring local musicians and storytellers.

This Friday, Dec. 12 at 6 PM, local storytellers and performers will be taking to the stage at SPEAKeasy, a monthly showcase of stories performed in song, poem, and personal narratives, in the ArtWRKD Exhibition Space above Newtown’s Triple Sun Spirits

SPEAKeasy is a collaboration between gallerist and curator of ArtWRKD Ashara Shapiro, and Joe Montone, founder of Stage United, who will be co-hosting the event.

“SPEAKeasy provides audiences a candid glimpse at the diversity of their neighborhood,” said Montone. “In a world of scrolling and AI, we might miss the captivating voice that could only be from Bucks County.”

This month’s performance kicks off with the Americana rock band from Newtown, Fallon’s Religion. Their sound reflects the southern rock roots of founding members and songwriters, Melanie Fallon and Dan Pell.

The band’s latest single, “Chase Me Down”, blends R&B warmth and glimpses of Laurel Canyon with their signature harmonies led by Melanie’s powerful vocals.

Doylestown storyteller Adam J. Newton will be taking to the mic to share some of his work. He began writing short stories in 2019 and currently serves as the curator and organizer of the Bucks County Writers Group.

Poetry will be read by Doylestown’s Mary Grace Comber, whose poems discuss themes like the natural world. Her 2021 self-published book of poetry, “Please Don’t Shrink,” will soon be joined by her second book, “Earth School.”
