Boss Events is organizing the first-ever Newtown Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving in honor of Brian Gregg, a Newtown Borough police officer who was slain in 2005, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.
The event is supporting the Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to children of first responders who died or are permanently disabled.
“The race, set for Thanksgiving morning, is more than just a fun run. It’s an opportunity to come together in remembrance, gratitude, and support,” the organizers of the event said. “And what better day to unite as a community and give thanks than Thanksgiving itself?”
The Turkey Trot will begin at 9 AM on Nov. 27. The cost to enter is $30 for children and $50 for adults.
A $100 gift card to Lang’s Ski and Scuba or a Discover Scuba diving lesson for two will be awarded to the top male and female winners. A 686 tech hoodie will be awarded to the top youth winner.
Boss Events has organized fundraising races throughout the country.
They previously coordinated the Newtown Shamrock Shuffle 5K, raising money for the nonprofit A Love for Life. The nonprofit, based in the borough, supports Penn Medicine’s pancreatic cancer research.
