Archbishop Wood’s girls’ soccer captain, Brigid Johnston, has an impressive support system, both in the stands and on the field, writes Melissa Hanejko for the Bucks County Courier Times.
During a game, Johnston’s parents, six siblings, dozens of first cousins, aunts and uncles can be seen cheering her on.
But for the high school senior, family isn’t defined by blood.
“We have so many sets of siblings on our soccer team that we’ve pretty much become one big family,” said Johnston. “A lot of my teammates I knew even before high school and our families know each other.”
Now, the team is heading to the PIAA Class 2A semifinals, finally ending their PIAA quarterfinal losing streak after a win against Trinity.
Johnston, whose goal for herself and the team was to break that streak, is dedicated to her leadership role.
“We have a lot of young players and I wanted to share my experiences with them,” she said. “Mainly that it does get easier each year, and I have so much confidence in them.”
Her dedication carries over to the girls’ flag football team, which she’s been a member of since her sophomore year.
