Independent bookstores across the Main Line are proving that collaboration is the best story of all, writes Gina Lizzo of Main Line Today.
In Narberth and Ardmore, two women-owned shops are helping lead a literary alliance that’s strengthening community ties and redefining what it means to shop local.
Narberth Bookshop and Mavy Books of Ardmore have joined forces with several other independents as part of the Indie Main Line Coalition, a partnership that celebrates small, community-driven bookselling. Their mission: to keep readers engaged, support local charities, and remind everyone that the personal touch of a neighborhood bookstore can’t be replicated online.
The coalition launched earlier this year with an “Indie Loves Back” fundraiser, followed by a summer mini book crawl that encouraged customers to visit each participating shop. “Each of our stores has a unique personality,” says Ellen Trachtenberg, owner of Narberth Bookshop. “It’s been wonderful to unite with a common goal.”
In Ardmore, Mavy Books helped spark the early collaboration, bringing a creative energy to the effort before stepping back from day-to-day organizing. The remaining stores continue to share customers, resources, and inspiration.
