Perkasie Borough Council members have formally opposed plans to construct dozens of luxury apartments near the Perkasie Square shopping center, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
After a lengthy discussion, officials unanimously directed the borough solicitor to express their opposition to the planned project at the upcoming zoning hearing board meeting on Oct. 27, when developers will request variances to move the development forward.
The developer for Perkasie Place will need a zoning variance to allow for a multi-family dwelling in the I-2 light industrial district, where residential uses are normally prohibited.
The developer argues that under the current zoning, the property does not have a viable use, which justifies changing the zoning to its proposed use.
The plan submitted to borough officials proposes five buildings containing 75 luxury apartments next to Mavis Tire on Constitution Avenue. At a planning commission meeting in August, the plan drew significant pushback from dozens of residents.
The developer is currently under a sale agreement for the property with Pacaz Realty, owner of the neighboring shopping center. A small part of the parcel is within Sellersville.
