Newtown-based Triumph Building Group proposed constructing townhomes on a nearly four-acre site in Doylestown Township, incorporating the preservation of an 1880 Victorian home into the design, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
During a presentation of preliminary sketch plans to the township’s planning commission, the builders said the historic structure would be preserved by converting it into the first townhouse unit in the neighborhood, attached to units two and three.
The development’s nine remaining townhomes will circle a cul-de-sac at the end of the entryway from Shady Retreat Road. At the rear of the property, trees will surround the neighborhood, providing a natural buffer between the new houses and any nearby properties.
While some officials praised the effort to preserve a part of the township’s history, they also shared their concerns regarding the two lots linked to the historic home.
“I think if you’re going to preserve that structure it needs to stand alone,” said planning commission member Judy Hendrixson.
Hendrixson suggested that the developer eliminate the two units entirely from the sketch plan.
“If you did that, the rest of it all seems to fall into place pretty nicely,” she added.
