Shari Faden Donahue, author and owner of Zebra-Striped Whale ice cream shop in Newtown, has published her fifth children’s book to celebrate the store’s 20th anniversary, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
In her new book, Zebra-Striped Whale’s Ice Cream Party, Donahue takes young readers on a magical journey under the seas, where they meet a mermaid and many other sea creatures as they share their favorite ice cream flavors.
“Everyone feels very strongly about their ice cream,” said Donahue. “And that comes through in the pages of the book. The idea is that ice cream is a smile maker and gives a connection, but also to remember that everyone has their likes and dislikes, and that’s okay.”
The book also includes instructions on how to make the Zebra-Striped Whale’s favorite, a Polka Dot Sundae.
Donahue opened the popular shop with her husband, Tom, two decades ago. The one-of-a-kind book-themed ice cream parlor has since become a must-visit Bucks County destination thanks to its whimsical decor and delicious assortment of ice cream treats, such as crepes, sundaes and smoothies.
