Bucks County Mail Carrier Saves Car Crash Victim with CPR in Bensalem

Sarah Van de Laar, a USPS driver in Bucks County, recently saved a man’s life, providing critical help to a driver who crashed his car.

USPS carrier Sarah Van de Laar was on her mail route in Bensalem when she witnessed a car crash on Knights Road, reports Christie Ileto for 6abc. Realizing the driver was hurt, she leapt into action.

“I glanced over and I just saw this little red sedan, just like it looked like he cut the curb too fast,” she said. “I saw dirt pop up, and then I looked over again and then he was in the middle of a person’s yard.”

Van de Laar rushed over to offer assistance just before the driver fell unconscious. She and a few others managed to pull the man from his vehicle and laid him down, where Van de Laar started chest compressions.

An ambulance arrived to rush the driver to the hospital, leaving Van de Laar to return to work. She admitted she wasn’t able to focus, wondering about the state of the man’s health.

A month later, she learned that, thanks to her efforts, the man had survived.

Van de Laar was awarded for her actions and expressed her gratitude to those who helped her that day.

“I don’t consider myself a hero, but I also just consider myself a human being. I just come into my job every day, go home, see my family,” she said.
