Quakertown Elementary School Set for Demolition. New Building Planned

Quakertown Elementary School is slated for demolition as the school district reviews plans for a new building.

Quakertown Elementary School is slated for demolition after a Quakertown Community School District committee recently reviewed plans for a new elementary school, writes Jess Rohan for the Bucks County Courier Times.

On August 14, the school board moved forward with plans to raze the century-old building and construct a new one adjacent to it. The design for the new building has been reviewed and is now scheduled for a vote at the August 27 school board meeting.

At Thursday’s meeting, district officials and architects said the new Quakertown Elementary would serve as a hub for the district. The extra space would be used for early kindergarten, special education and other programs.

Spanning 62,852 square feet, the proposed new building could house up to 584 students. This is about twice the number currently attending the elementary school. Each grade would have four dedicated classrooms.

A standout feature of the design is the cafeteria, which incorporates a spiral ramp to ensure accessibility for students with different physical abilities.

If the project moves forward as planned, the old building will be demolished in 2026. Construction of the new building could be completed as early as January 2029.
