Artist Greta Karr, a Bucks County native, recently opened her new solo exhibit titled “Americana” at the ArtWRKD exhibition space in Newtown, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
Karr is known for utilizing unique materials to create her pieces, using everything from saddles and cigarette packs to truck doors as her canvas.
In the past, the artist has explored themes like marginalization and environmental estrangement.
“‘Americana’ is a body of work tackling different facets of American society, culture, and history,” Karr said. “Through symbolic imagery, I address themes of consumerism, industrialization, addiction, beauty, [and] westernized culture’s separation from the natural world — and furthermore, ourselves.”
The exhibition features sculptures, oil paintings and even performative elements. Through these pieces, viewers can see Karr’s thoughts on topics like duality, beauty and environmental consciousness.
Karr uses her experiences living on both the East and West Coasts to guide and inspire her art.
The exhibit will be open at 128 S. State Street in Newtown until Aug. 31. An art reception will take place from 12 PM to 3 PM on Aug. 9, giving visitors the chance to meet with Karr.
