George School’s New Head of School Plans to Maximize Impact of $17.75M Gift

Justin Brandon plans on maximizing a $17.75 million gift from an anonymous donor.

Justin Brandon, the first Black head of school at George School in Newtown, who assumed the role last year, plans to maximize the recent $17.75 million gift from an anonymous donor, writes Abigail Chachoute for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

During his first year, Brandon focused on connecting with the school community of over 540 students, both on and off campus. He joined the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams on a cultural exchange to China, observing how they fostered camaraderie and embodied school values in a new environment.

Entering his second year, Brandon will remain accessible and visible to stakeholders while collaborating with faculty and staff to foster an even stronger sense of community.

The money from last year’s donation will be used to increase access to co-curricular activities, experiential learning and leadership development. The school is also starting its $6 million renovation of the Walton Lobby, its performing arts center, next year.

“It’s going to include modern bathroom facilities, an art gallery, a gathering space, a place for students to have class meetings, to have dances, to have different performances just in the gallery itself, and that lobby itself,” said Brandon.
