George School's Gianna Johnson has earned basketball stardom with the Cougars, and her journey is only beginning.

Just two years ago, Gianna Johnson, a 6-foot-5 forward, was a bench player at Conwell-Egan, still honing her basketball skills, writes Owen McCue for City of Basketball Love and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Today, she’s a rising star at George School, with a full scholarship from the University of Delaware waiting for her after graduation.

Johnson’s transformation began in the summer of 2022, marking the start of her senior season with impressive performances.

Her recent 19-point, 11-rebound game in a 68-51 victory over Perkiomen School highlights her rapid development. This win contributed to the Cougars‘ undefeated streak of 5-0.

Reflecting on her journey, Johnson, a Levittown native, said, “It’s been really cool. I’ve been working every day, and I’m glad to see it’s all coming together.”

Her talents have been recognized since July 2021, with her first offer from Morgan State. Post her junior season, about 30 schools showed interest, but Delaware, with its strong family-like team dynamic, won her over.

George School’s head coach, La’Keisha Sutton, who trained Johnson before coaching her, has played a significant role in her development. Under Sutton’s guidance, Johnson aimed for a double-double average in her junior year and now strives for the Gatorade State Player of the Year title.
