This New Hope Farm is the Perfect Place for Families with Special Needs

New Hope’s Helping Friendly Farm is a soothing space for families with special needs, combining nature, animals and sensory exploration.

Helping Friendly Farm in New Hope is a wonderful place for families with special needs. The space offers a soothing atmosphere and fun activities, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc

Jessica Zander, a former special education teacher, founded the farm, which opened in 2022. The farm offers families a blend of sensory exploration, animal interaction and nature.

Trainers have worked with the animals on the farm from a young age, ensuring they’re comfortable with kids. Visitors can spend time interacting with pigs and goats.

The farm’s sensory barn includes a relaxing light and sound room and a yoga and meditation space. It also features an occupational therapy sensory gym.

“It’s really just an awesome place for families like ours that can come and have a good time,” said Allison Walsh, a parent who regularly visits the farm with her family. “My son, in particular, doesn’t like large crowds and loud noises, so it’s really scheduled by the family and by their needs.”

The farm is available by appointment only, which families can book through the farm’s website.

“You can experience things in your own way. Equipment can be used however you want, and that’s something that is really important because everyone deserves to feel included,” said Zander.
