A group of Bucks County students participated in this year’s Foundations Community Partnership’s Summer Youth Corps, which offered them a 10-week, paid internship experience at the nonprofit that serves local children, young adults, and families, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

Thirteen students got the chance to gain practical experience over the summer and made a positive impact in the community. They also earned college credit through the program’s partnership with Bucks County Community College.

The program, which concluded on August 2, was supported by Program Supervisor Patrick Reynolds.

“This experience has opened my eyes to the world of nonprofits and the various things they do throughout the county,” he said. “It has been a joy to witness how this experience has impacted the personal and professional growth of the interns.”

SYC combines meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to improve the learning experience, promote civic responsibility, and build stronger communities. Over the last 15 years, 215 college students contributed almost 62,000 service hours at 40 participating Bucks County nonprofits.

Based on the value of a volunteer hour estimated by the Independent Sector, SYC interns have contributed $1,518,185.50 to nonprofits since 2008.
